About Us
Divine Comedy is a long-running scripted sketch comedy troupe that performs at Brigham Young University. Divine Comedy provides a gentle satirical look at student life at BYU and LDS culture in general. Also, we do other silly stuff that we think is funny. Your mileage may vary.
Our Shows
Divine Comedy currently performs two completely original shows a semester (Fall/Winter only) with four performances per show.
A “Best of Divine Comedy” show is performed near the end of a semester. This show is usually a compilation, using material from the past two shows that semester, as well as resurrecting old sketches from the Divine Comedy Vault. Which is also where we store our out-of-print CD’s and DVD’s in order to artificially keep demand high.
Other shows as time and willingness permits.
What to expect
The atmosphere at a Divine Comedy show can best be described as a “Mormon rave” with candy, glow sticks and raucous music being thrown out to the crowd between sketches. At least that’s what we imagine a rave to be like. We’ve never been… have you?
Divine Comedy shows are fun for all ages. So go ahead and cram little Susie and Grandmama into the Chevy Astrovan and come check us out. You’ll be glad you did.
Also, at the end of our shows Gallagher comes out and smashes a few items of produce with a giant novelty mallet. BYORG (Bring your own rain gear)
How should I prepare?
Please come with a good sense of humor. Like any good comedy, we poke fun at a lot of ideas, situations and people. If you happen to be one of these, please remember that it’s all in good fun. If you forget that, Elder Bednar gave a really good talk this one time.
Individuals with pacemakers or those suffering from incontinence should consult a physician before beginning a Divine Comedy regimen.
