A reflection on this year in Television.
Posted Under: Uncategorized
Not many of you outside of the group know this, but Mike and Alex watch way too much TV. So they thought you’d all benefit from their vast knowledge of the world of TV and review some of their favorites of this season.
LOST
Lost is had its final season. And I’ve been an avid fan since day one. This season has been a good one. The flash-sideways has allowed the Lost creatures to bring some of our favorite characters back, like Charlie, Boone (swoon), Libby, and Faraday amongst others. We’ve also been reintroduced to Claire. Crazy, crazy, French woman like Claire. She actually has kind of scared me this season. And Jacob is dead, and Locke is really the man in Black and apparently everyone was happier without the island. I mean Hurley is actually lucky and Jack has a son, with Juliette?!? And they’ve killed off all but Jack, Hurley, Kate and Sawyer by the time the finale started. Do you know how many tears I’ve cried over you Lost?!? Now that the series is over I still find myself saying “What the freak just happened. I still don’t know the man in Black’s name, or half those ‘unanswered questions’ they said they’d answer. Also I’ve put six long years of my life in this show, and this is what I’m left with a reunion special at some weird church!?!?!” Obviously I have some issues I need to work out. Overall though I’d give this season 108 stars (get it because 4+8+15+16+23+42=108). I can’t really stay made at Lost, it was truly an amazing ending. –AG
I never watched this show. I have to say I am surprised it was as popular as it was, when it was originally pitched to audiences as a plane crash survivor story (where attractive people had a much better chance of surviving) and ended showing heaven as…eharmony.com? Whatever, I hear it was a great show though, so I’ll give an A. An A that is at the same time both the smoke monster and Satan. -MD
24
24 is in its last season apparently. I watched an episode once when I was a freshman in high school because my friend thought one of the characters was cute, I think he died though… Anyway so I’m pretty sure things have been blowing up this year, and that Jack Bauers is still being hard core. Blah, blah, blah, freedom and democracy. So 24 is going to get a J from me. Yeah we’ll go with that. –AG
“Jack Bauers”? Really? Jack Bauer could kill every single person on every other one of these shows. This season was no different. I don’t need to review it. I give it a perfect score plus a by-hand intestinal search (which Jack did this season, of a guy who made the mistake of swallowing his SIM card). – MD
10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU
Another gem is ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You. I mean a loose adaptation of a movie that was a very loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew is destined to be glorious, right? Sadly not everyone feels that way. And they show has been cancelled and had its Series Finale this week. But Bianca and Cameron aren’t together. And I don’t hate Joey because he’s super attractive, nice to Bianca and charming in his own right, not the jerk the movie made him to be. Cameron on the other hand is super cute, and tall (I live them tall…), and is super nice to Bianca. So how can I hate either of them. This is stupid. I hate this show, they SHOULD cancel it! Oh also the “series finale” sucked! I haven’t seen one that bad since The Class, look it up people! There best be a movie in the works. So I’d give this 1st and last season of 10 Things I Hate About You is getting a B- and a chili pepper because Patrick Verona is too darn hot! –AG
Oh yes, this show had to be great. Come on guys, it’s on ABC Family! This is the channel on which Lindsey Lohan’s movie “Labor Pains” premiered because it was too horrible for theaters! This is the channel that brought us such his as “Ruby & The Rockits” and “Make It or Break It”. Ever heard of them? Me neither. They even have re-runs of shows you haven’t heard of, like “Three Moons Over Milford”. So as you can see, this was a great show. Go watch it now. –MD
COMMUNITY
Community is another show I started watching after constant bickering from Mike, also all my family, but I’m glad I did. Community is boss! I’ve always loved Joel McHale, the host of The Soup, but this is him at his best. If you’ve ever met any kind of weirdies out at school you’ll understand this show. I can’t speak for the first half of the season but if you like movies you’ll love this show. The character Abed is obsessed with film and brings in constant throw backs to classics we know and love. I don’t support violence or war but the episode “Modern Warfare” was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I seriously watched it 5 times. I’ve never wanted to play paint ball so much in my life. One downside to Community is a complete satisfying season finale until the end when people decide to be idiots and ruin everything in the last 5 seconds! Regardless I’m going to give it an A- for the year. –AG
Community is a fantastic show. It’s one of those shows that literally requires you to watch it twice to catch all the jokes, because you were laughing over half of them the first time. It just constantly brings it. And it doesn’t even waste time with a theme song; it has a song/logo of about 5 seconds and then jumps right back into the show. It’s extremely well casted, you’ll immediately fall in love with the quirky study group and the pre-credit antics of Abed and Troy. A+. This is the new show to watch on NBC people! -MD
CHUCK
Chuck is the love of my life. This was the first season I actually watch, my roommate wouldn’t stop bugging me to so I finally gave in. But I’m glad I did. Everyone should watch it; no really it’s almost been cancelled about 4 times now. What’s not to love about an adorable, tall, smart, nerdy, spy man? Well maybe that’s just me, because Chuck is so my type. Ha. Anyway, if you love action, hot people (both for the men and women), weird best friends, theme songs by Cake, Someone named Captain Awesome, Madison from Everwood, and Superman from Superman Returns, this is your show. I’m giving it an A++++++… Please watch it. –AG
Guys, I got addicted to Chuck this season as well. I watched Season 2 on DVD in 2 days, and it was one of the best television experiences of my life. It has everything for everyone: hot chicks, hot guys, witty writing, straight up humor, action sequences, and pop culture references. This season was a little weird though; I’m not going to lie. It struggled a bit at the beginning; in the first two seasons Chuck was more of a reluctant spy, and in this season he wanted to be a spy and I think the writers had trouble justifying it. But half way through they really got it together, and I haven’t been that emotionally invested in the outcome of characters since Jim and Pam in seasons 2 and 3 of The Office. Fantastic show that both entertains and really draws you in. -MD

I’m very disappointed in you, Al. 24′s SERIES finale was fantastic. 24 itself is fantastic. The fact that you’ve never seen an entire season deems you unfit to give it a rating. Especially a J rating. I am overruling your grade and re-grading it an A. Only lacking the + because I wanted Jack to come forward with some information instead of the president, but this way worked out well too.
No, on second thought, I put the + in for the intestinal search.
At any rate, 24 provides much more than bombs and Chuck Norris-minimizers. 24 gives people insights into a life they will never have. But for an hour every week for the last eight years, citizens were able to fight and run from crime. They were able to chase, love, hurt, negotiate, predict, speculate, defend, and rock the mundane life we’re living.
Those who watch 24 can stand with me and say, “We all have a little Bauer somewhere inside of us.”
Oo-rah.
